Courses & Training

Education through dedication has been the essence of Sea Scan. Imparting of good and dedicated training values to students ensures that they grow and become confident. The SEA SCAN MARITIME FOUNDATION imparts training in consistent manner aiming at continual improvement of the trainees, where by their employers meet their needs and the shipping industry in general. Pre-sea training is essential for every prospective seafarer, not only to learn the basics about ships & shipping, but also to acquire necessary knowledge and skills in seamanship, technical or galley / service areas. Training of a high standard is imparted to the candidates in the respective disciplines & include ship visits, familiarization, swimming, boat drill & outdoor activities. The courses lay special emphasis on safety, usage of life saving appliances & fire prevention & fire fighting appliances.

Admission

Short listing of candidates will be done based on the marks obtained at the 10th standard exam. Preferences will be given to candidates with higher educational background and candidates with higher educational background and candidates sponsored by recognized shipping institutions.

The selection procedure will be based on norms set by the selection board and will be as transparent as possible. However, SEA SCAN MARITIME FOUNDATION reserves the right to select or refuse admission to any candidate without assigning any reasons whatsoever.

Age Limit

Candidate should be between the age limit of 17-1/2 to 25 years. UPPER AGE LIMIT RELAXED BY 5 YEARS IN CASE OF SCHEDULE CASTE & SCHEDULE TRIBES ONLY.

Admission Procedure

Candidates possessing the requisite criteria for admission may apply for joining the rating training course in the General Purpose/ Maritime Catering discipline form attached with this prospectus. Candidates should submit the application form duly filled, along with a copy each of the following documents duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.

Document Requirements

Marks sheets of 10th Standard/ SSLC/ HSC or equivalent examination. 12 copies of the candidate’s latest passport size 6color photograph. Note: Original Certificates have to be produced for verification at the time of admission.

Facilities

Bridge, Engine Room Simulators

We have an impressive bridge simulation training facility ably supported by our highly experienced lecturing staff who have many years of operational navigation experience, as well as their teaching and assessor qualifications.

Computer Lab

A fully air conditioned Computer Lab is provided to ensure that every trainee passing out of the academy is proficient and IT literate. Well equip labs and experienced training staff fulfill this objective.

Davits, Swimming Pools & Life Boats

The academy has two well maintained swimming pools where drills are conducted. Davits are also installed with life boat to carry out training as part of course curriculum.

Engineering, Seamanship, Rigging Workshops

Our engineering workshops include facilities for bench/hand fitting and the use of machine tools, welding, marine power plant and electrical maintenance.

Galley

In housing messing would be provided to all candidates. The variety of foods would be similar to what is provided on ships with the quality of food taken under utter consideration.

Hostel Accommodations

The pre-sea training course for ratings is totally residential in nature. Candidates would be housed in cabins allotted to them. The accommodation is specially designed to give a look and feel like a cabin of a passenger ship.

Medical Sick Bay

The academy has made provision for a doctor's visit on a regular basis to cater to the medical requirements of the candidates. In addition a paramedic is stationed on permanent basis for immediate deployment.

Sports & Leisure

For the recreation of candidates the academy has provided carom boards, board games, television sets and music systems etc which allow the cadets to rejuvenate their energy and refresh their minds.

Training Galley

A campus houses a training galley to conduct practical training in cookery. This galley is equipped with work tables, stoves, ovens, kitchen appliances to simulate a ships kitchen and provide training.
